Days after Reliance Jio’s 4G offer at Rs 50 per GB, state-run BSNL on Saturday said it will soon launch a promotional unlimited wireline broadband plan that costs less than Rs 1 per GB with a download limit of 300 GB per month.
“BSNL
is going to launch a very cost-effective and affordable promotional
unlimited Broadband plan ‘Experience Unlimited BB 249’ from September 9,
2016,” the telecom PSU said in a statement.
The
limited period offer is available for first six months after which the
subscribers will be migrated to a regular plan of their choice, BSNL
said in the statement.
Though it is an unlimited offer, according to Fair Usage Policy (FUP) the download limit is fixed at 300GB per month.
FUP
is implemented by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) keeping in view the
fact that a small number of customers may otherwise use an excessive
amount of the network bandwidth and impairs the experience of a large
majority.
The
plan will attract new users to experience BSNL broadband services, the
corporation’s Chairman cum Managing Director Anupam Shrivastava said in a
statement.
Shrivastava added that BSNL is
the only operator offering lowest per GB data download cost plan under
broadband services in the country.
At
Reliance Industries’ 42th Annual General Meeting on Friday, Chairman
Mukesh Ambani had said data must be “affordable”. He had said that
against the prevailing market rate of Rs 250 per GB, Jio’s rates will be
Rs 25-50 per GB depending on data usage.
